December 29, 2025_Tensions in Syria have reached a boiling point following a wave of targeted violence against the Alawite community, sparking mass demonstrations under the banner of “Dignity’s Wrath”. Responding to a “final warning” by Sheikh Ghazal Ghazal on December 28, thousands demanded an end to systemic violence, the rejection of civil war, and the implementation of political federalism.
Background: A Backdrop of Bloodshed
The protests were triggered by rapid violent incidents, starting with civilian casualties in Baabda, rural Jableh on Dec 25, followed by the bombing of the Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque in Homs. In less than 72 hours, dozens were killed or wounded, prompting calls for radical solutions and international protection against identity-based killings.
Repression and Field Assaults
De facto authorities and “Jolani” supporters met peaceful rallies with iron and fire. Armored vehicles and live ammunition were deployed in Latakia, while elderly protesters were beaten in Homs. In Tartus, heavy tear gas caused widespread injuries. Protesters responded by burning Turkish flags, rejecting foreign intervention and mobilizing rhetoric against minorities.
Ongoing Attacks in Latakia (Field Update)
Alawite-majority neighborhoods (Al-Zira’a, Project B, Project 7, and Al-Jumhouriya St) are currently facing organized assaults by armed Jolani supporters who are:
• Storming neighborhoods and intimidating residents with heavy gunfire.
• Systematically destroying shops and private vehicles while shouting sectarian slurs.
• Carrying out knife attacks, with victims including “Yousef, Ali, and Alaa Qassem” currently hospitalized.
Conclusion: Casualties and Global Inaction
These events have resulted in numerous civilian casualties, with 4 martyrs documented by name: Nour Badr Ghara, the child Haider Moalla, Zain al-Abidin Azzam Hussein, and Hassan Adnan Ibrahim. The death toll is expected to rise with dozens of injured in hospitals. These attacks occur in full view of “General Security” forces without intervention, amid a total absence of international action to prevent a full-scale ethnic conflict.
