The city of Aleppo is witnessing a systematic war against the Kurdish people as of January 8 2026 marked by a dangerous military escalation targeting their residential neighborhoods the so-called operations room of Al-Jolani defense ministry announced a curfew and concentrated targeting starting at 01:30 PM covering Sheikh Maqsoud Al-Ashrafiya and Bani Zaid while ordering civilians to immediately evacuate and stay at least 500 meters away from targeted sites.
This announcement coincided with the outbreak of bloody street warfare and fierce battles in Al-Ashrafiya neighborhood after a breach was opened on its outskirts as the “Amshat Hamzat and Nour al-Din al-Zanki” factions of the Interim Government launched extensive attacks using tanks and armored vehicles accompanied by artillery shelling hitting the vicinity of Al-Rahman Mosque and Unit 19 of the university dormitory leading to the suspension of flights at Aleppo International Airport until tomorrow evening.
In a field development revealing the nature of the attacking forces video clips documented the participation of ISIS members fighting alongside the so-called Al-Jolani Defense Ministry while recordings showed the use of “Inghimasi” suicide attackers to storm residential neighborhoods with religious slogans reflecting the unchanged ideology of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham despite its name changes resulting in a rising death toll in Aleppo neighborhoods to 12 martyrs and 64 wounded civilians
On the other hand the SDF Media Center announced heroic resistance by Internal Security Forces as a group of attackers fell into a tight ambush on the outskirts of Al-Ashrafiya resulting in four dead and the retreat of the rest while two armored vehicles were destroyed with those inside and 9 militants were killed during advancement attempts while clashes continue until this moment against continuous tank shelling and drone strikes
