A new report by the International Commission of Inquiry revealed brutal acts of violence in Swaida resulting in the deaths of over 1700 people and the displacement of 200000 others from their homes
The report relied on 409 field testimonies documenting widespread destruction of tens of thousands of homes shops and places of worship especially in Druze villages where investigators documented the deaths of 1190 men 99 women 22 boys and 31 girls from the community
The violence targeted 35 predominantly Druze villages where almost all homes and religious sites were burned and looted in retaliatory acts
About 155000 displaced people from Druze villages remain unable to return while 100 Druze are still missing
The Commission confirmed that these violations may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity calling for the accountability of perpetrators to ensure that the Swaida tragedy is never repeated
